Man Seeks Roommate
For Washing, Other Chores
"Wanted: Attractive female roommate who
can do laundry and house - work in spare time.
I can cook, etc. Free room and board. Private
sleeping facilities, ¼ mil from campus. Call
Steve at 296-6949."
A joke? University Lonely Hearts Service?
Not according to Steve Thornburg, author of
the above ad which as been seen around the
grounds for the last few days.
Mr. Thornburg visited the offices of The Cavalier
Daily yesterday in response to a phone
call, his only one so far. "I'm still hoping,
though," Mr. Thornburg said. "Everybody that
I've talked to so far has wished me luck."
Mr. Thornburg, who has lived in Charlottesville
for about a month, is from Pennsylvania.
He said that he had lived in similar circumstances
while up there. "I lived with this chick
for about three months. It was great for a
while, but she was a slob. Always leaving her
clothes around and stuff."
When asked if this previous experience had
made him a little more selective, Mr. Thornburg
mentioned that "If she's dirty, forget it."
Mr. Thornburg's interests are not overtly romantic.
He is more interested in having -
Mother's touch" around his apartment. "It's
the person that counts. I just want someone to
keep the place neat and wash my clothes and
stuff like that." She'll have her own room -
nice view, fireplace, the works."
When asked about qualifications, Mr. Thornburg
said "I don't want a stupid chick. I plan
on interviewing her - it won't be just anybody."
In closing Mr. Thornburg commented, "I
hope I find someone soon. I can cook, but
would like to have someone around."
