Law Weekly Again Honored
As Premier Paper In Class

The Virginia Law Weekly, newspaper of the
University's School of Law, has again been
named first-place winner in competition among
law school newspapers.

The award marks the fourteenth consecutive
year that the Law Weekly has received recognition
as the premier law school newspaper.
The competition is held by the American Bar
Association — Law Student Division.

The announcement was made at the annual
convention of the ABA and the LSD held in
Dallas, Texas, in August. Robert P. Kyle, editor
of the Law Weekly, accepted the award as
representative of the law school.

In making the presentation, Henry A. Clay,
director of the LSD, noted that the Law
Weekly has won its division in every year that it
has been entered.

The primary objective of the national competition
is the encouragement of legal journalism
in law schools throughout the country.
Criteria used in judging the contest included the
quality of news presentation, excellence in
writing, general operation and layout as well as
various aspects of business management.

For seven years the Virginia Law Weekly
was awarded an unqualified first place in the
contest sponsored by the American Law School
Association, predecessor of the LSD. Thereafter,
newspapers entering the competition
were placed in one of three categories according
to the size of the student bodies of each law
school.

The Law Weekly has since taken top honors
in Category B which consists of schools with
500-1,000 students.

In Category A, over 1,000 students, the
highest recognition went to the Texas School of
Law, Texas Law Forum. The Duquesne University
School of Law Juris was selected as the
best student newspaper of law schools having
up to 500 students.
