Jenks, Lassiter Gain
Release From Prison
Two former University students who were
arrested for phoning in a bomb threat to the
University during the summer and sentenced to
a year in prison, have been released from jail.
Thomas R. Jenks and Edward Lassiter were
arrested by University security police for
"unlawfully and feloniously telephoning a
bomb threat to the switchboard of the
University, knowing the same to be false," in
violation of state law.
The case was brought before Albemarle
County Court on Aug. 20. Both students had
their charges reduced from felonies to misdemeanors.
They pleaded guilty and were
sentenced to one year at the state prison farm
in Goochland County, the maximum sentence
for a misdemeanor.
It has been learned that both former
students were paroled to the custody of their
parents last Tuesday and have returned to their
homes.
Neither party could be contacted for
comment.
