University Young Democrats
Elect William Hosp President
At the final meeting of the year,
the University Young Democrats
elected William Hosp, a second-year
man in the College, as the club's
new president Thursday night.
Guided by the knowledge that
1969 is an election year in which
Virginians will elect a successor to
Governor Mills E. Godwin, the
Young Democrats elected a sate of
officers who promised to increase
the membership and vitality of the
club in coming year.
Besides Mr. Hosp, who will
succeed Jim Roebuck as president
of the club, the Young Democrats
elected Wayne Peck, a first-year
college student, as next year's
Executive Vice-President. Robert
Burke, a graduate government student
who has been named to a
national Democratic reform committee,
was chosen Graduate
School Vice-President.
Bill Mason, a first-year law
student, was elected Law School
Vice-President, while S.T. Crockett
was elected Undergraduate Vice-President.
Peyton Whiteley, a
second-year man in the College, was
elected Secretary, and Gardner
Courson of the Commerce School
was named Treasurer.
In other business, the club
drafted a letter to Governor Godwin,
urging him to support the
party's nominee for his successor.
Mr. Godwin has stated that he
might not support one of the
candidates in the July Democratic
primary, and the letter stated that
such a stand would be disastrous
for the party. The club also pledged
its support for any of the three
candidates for Governor.
Finally, the club made plans to
set up a booth at registration.
