Alumni Cite Two
For Honor Award
Charles Julian Bishko, professor
of medieval history, and
Arthur Powell Gray IV, a fourth-year
student, were awarded the
University Distinguished Professor
and Distinguished Student
awards Saturday.
Both were cited for their
"significant contributions to the
life of the University" as the
presentations were made at the
annual Alumni Day luncheon in
Memorial Gymnasium. The
awards were established in 1966
by the University's Alumni Association.
Mr. Bishko, who came to the
University in 1938, is a specialist
in Spanish and Portuguese history
of the Middle Ages. A
frequent contributor to professional
journals, he is a member
of the editorial boards of
Anuario de Estudios Medievales
of Barcelona, Spain; Hispanic
American Historical Review and
Portugal's Centro Portugues de
Estudos Monasticos. He is contributing
editor on Spanish and
Portuguese bibliography to the
American Historical Review.
Mr. Gray, who has served as
president of the College and
chairman of the Honor Committee,
is a member of the Raven
Society, Omicron Delta Kappa
leadership honorary, Zeta Psi
fraternity, and IMP and TILKA
honoraries. Recipient of the University
Honor Award and Raven
Award, he has been a member
of the football team and participated
in intramural boxing.
Saturday's luncheon was attended
by members of the University
Alumni Association and
Law School Alumni, who heard
address by President Edgar
F. Shannon, Jr.
Other Saturday events included
the annual meeting of the University
Alumni Association. At
Saturday night's Law Alumni
banquet, the Doherty Lecture
was delivered by Monrad Paulsen,
dean-elect of the University
School of Law.
