Athletic Director Now
Responsible To Shannon

The University Athletic
Director will be "responsible
directly to the President of the
University on all matters
concerning the programs under
his direction," President Edgar
F. Shannon announced
Monday.

The Athletic Director was
previously responsible to the
Vice President for Student
Affairs.

'More Effective Way'

This change "would be a
more effective way of
communicating directly with
the President," Information
Services Director William H.
Fishback Jr. said.

Intercollegiate athletics,
club sports, intramurals,
recreation and service physical
education programs, and
development programs come
under this new policy.

Coordinate Programs

Mr. Shannon said that in
club sports, intramural, and
recreation matters, the Athletic
Director "will carry out his
responsibilities in liaison with
the Vice President for Student
Affairs."

He will coordinate
development programs with
the Public Affairs Office, and
will work directly with the five
Vice Presidents in all athletic
program matters.

Change "Helpful"

He said the change would be
"a very helpful one since Pres.
Shannon is very much
interested in the entire sports
program."

Mr. Shannon and Student
Affairs Vice Pres. D. Alan
Williams were not available for
comment.
