Prison Site
Dispute
Continues

Despite continuing action
towards securing application
for the proposed Green Springs
state prison in Louisa County,
the principal opponents of the
prison are not upset.

An application was
filed last week for the
establishment of water sewage
treatment facilities at the
prison, but Governor Linwood
Holton said that the erection
of the prison facility will not
necessarily follow from the
application. The Governor
further noted that should the
residents of Green Springs
guarantee the preservation of
the area, he would not allow
the construction of the prison
in that locality.

Mrs. Hiram B. Ely, a
resident of Louisa County, and
a member of the Green Springs
Association, dismissed the
news of the treatment plant,
saying, "We've been well aware
of this for some time." She
added, "The sewage plants
were handled by a separate
department. Since they were so
close to completion, they went
ahead with them."

Mrs. Ely said, "We are sure
that the state's offer to move
the prison from the Green
Springs neighborhood was
done in good faith. They just
have a peculiar way of showing
it."

She added that the Green
Springs case is still in the
courts. "Should it become
necessary to pursue the matter,
we will not hesitate."
