Artisan Co-Op Opens In Ivy Shop,
Features Student's Arts And Crafts

An artisan co-op featuring arts and
crafts made by University students has
recently opened at 1939 Ivy Road.

The shop sells paintings, clothes,
photographs, leather goods, sculpture,
batik, and tie-dyed articles. Everything in
the co-op is hand-made.

Featured at the shop is sterling silver jewelry
made by Richard Kimball, a fourth-year
student in the College. His jewelry is being
displayed on the second floor of Newcomb Hall
until April 3. Mr. Kimball has been making
jewelry for eight years and hopes to open a
crafts shop in Colorado. He has also done
bronze and steel sculpture. The shop was
started by Mrs. Cornelia Neal on March 13 as a
meeting place and a place for local artists to
show their work. Mrs. Neal said she started the
co-op due to the lack of such a showplace to
recognize local artists.

Located in the basement of the Ivy Shop,
and antique and gift shop, the co-op is open
from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through
Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on
Friday.

All prices are set by the artist, and profits go
directly to him except for a 30 per cent
commission on each item which is taken by the
co-op for maintenance. A jury of students and
artists votes on all prices.
