Ribble Buried

Frederick D.G.Ribble, dean of the Law
School at the University from 1939 to
1963, died Thursday at the age of 72.

After receiving his A.B., from William
and Mary in 1916, Mr. Ribble came to
the University to earn his M.A. and LL.B.
Joining the faculty in 1920, Mr. Ribble
served as full professor from 1927 until
his retirement in 1966.

Mr. Ribble served as president of the
Association of American Law Schools the
Virginia State Bar Association, and as chairman
of the American Bar Associations' Section on
Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.

In 1950 he was United States representative
to the Geneva Conference on Freedom of
Information and served as a member of the U.S.
National Committee for UNESCO.

He also served as delegate to the conference
of the U.N.'s Educational Cultural Organization
in Beirut in 1948 and in Paris in 1950.

He is survived by a son, Frederick G. Ribble,
and four sisters, Frances Ribble, Mildred
Ribble, Mrs. Elsie McCarty, and Mrs. Caroline
Green.
