Degree Candidates Decide
Constitution In November

By Brian Siegel
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

The ratification of the Senior Class
Constitution and the selection of officers
for the Class of '71 will both be decided
by University degree applicants in the
upcoming elections on November 4 and
5.

If the constitution is approved, it will
be the first official charter in the history
of the graduating class.

— Seven Candidates

Seven candidates are currently running
for the office of Senior Class President
while ten others are running for the
representative positions from each of the
undergraduate schools.

The winners will make up one part of
the Executive Council, the other part consisting
of representatives from the graduate schools
who will be appointed by the presidents of
their respective schools.

This Executive Council, once organized, will
then elect a vice-president, treasurer, secretary,
and historian from within its ranks.

One catch to this whole election, however, is
that the validity of this election depends upon
the ratification of the proposed constitution.

Constitution

The constitution needs a 2/3 vote for
approval.

Running for Senior Class President are
Douglas G. Bain, Charles F. Collin, Arnold
Goldin, William H. Harris, Trip Lynch, Bob
Nigro, and Buzzy Waitzkin.

Although the President may be from any
school, Mr. Nigro (Commerce) is the only
candidate not from the College.

In the race for College Representative are
Jim Basl, John Cook, Bill Creason, C. Thomas
Faulders III, Al Hadeed, Fred Leffel, and
Clifford Weckstein.

The sole candidate for Engineering
Representative is David Kunsman. In addition,
Sue Tomkinson is running for Nursing
Representative and Bob Nigro for Commerce
Representative.

There is no candidate from the Education
School.

Run-off

In these elections the winner must receive
40 per cent of the vote. If not, a run-off will be
held upon the request of the number two man
between the top two candidates.

The runoff, if necessary, will be held as soon
as possible following the elections.

Even though only the names of the above
people will appear on the November ballot,
anyone can have a write-in campaign.

All degree applicants are eligible to vote in
this election regardless of what school they are
enrolled in.
