Paul Victorius
Dies at Age 71

Paul B. Victorius, noted authority on
old prints and scientific books died last
Tuesday in a Charlottesville hospital after
a long illness. He was 71 years old.

The Victorius collection of first editions of
books on evolution. Darwinalia and associated
copies is part of the rate book collection in the
University's Alderman Library.

In recent years, Mr. Victorius devoted his
time mainly to the collection of prints,
including examples of Hogarth, Piranesi, and
Redoute, while his articles have been published
in journals such as "Colophon."

Mr. and Mrs. Victorius donated a collection
of framed prints to the Charlottesville Mental
Health Clinic when its building was established,
and subsequently a series of old maps was given
to the Department of Psychiatry at the
University's Medical School.

Possessing an interest in the fields of
psychiatry, mental health, and human relations,
Mr. Victorius was one of the first employers in
Charlottesville to hire members of all races on
the level of managerial personnel.
