To Discuss Colonials

James W. Richard Lecturer

The white, red, and black first families
of Virginia will be discussed next week in
three lectures by a noted American History
professor from Princeton University.

Wesley Frank Craven, George Henry
Davis '86 Professor of American History
at Princeton, will deliver the annual
James W. Richard Lectures.

Open to the public, the lectures will
be held at 8 p.m. in Gilmer Hall auditorium.

He is the author of several writings on the
Colonial scene, including "The Southern Colonies
of the 17th Century." "The Colonies in
Transition, 1660-1713." "The Failure of the
Colonial Experiment," and "Dissolution of the
Virginia Company." Dr. Craven will discuss the
white Virginian of that period on Monday,
October 26, the red Virginian on Tuesday,
October 27, and the black Virginia on Wednesday,
October 28.

Dr. Craven has served on the Board of
Advisors of the institute of Colonial History
and Culture at Williamsburg and on the editorial
boards of the Journal of Modern History, the
Journal of Southern History and the William
and Mary Quarterly.
