Union Of Students Meets
To Discuss Doran Case

An emergency meeting of the Union
of University Students has been called to
express its grave concern over the arrest
of Tom Doran on the grounds Thursday.

The meeting, to be held at 8 p.m.
today in the Newcomb Hall Ballroom,
hopes to deal with the "threat posed to
the members of the University
community by the Board of Visitors,
University administrators, and
Charlottesville authorities."

In the opinion of the Coordinating
Committee, Tom Doran's arrest and
prohibition from campus on Thursday
underlines the seriousness of the threat now
facing the activist elements on and off campus.

A spokesman for the Union of University
Students wrote, "It is imperative especially in
the light of the forthcoming student trials
stemming from last spring's strike that students
begin to mobilize for their collective defense."

Agenda for the meeting today will be led by
an attempt to establish a legal defense fund for
Union members.

Also on the agenda will be such matters as
the Union's response to and role in the
upcoming trials, a student initiated "student
bill of rights," a tenant's association, a Union
newsletter and an expansion of the Book
Exchange.

The Book Exchange is now being operated
in the basement of Newcomb Hall. Discussion
of forthcoming Union elections will also take
place.

The Coordinating Committee urges all
students interested in the aims and purposes of
the Union of University Students to attend.
Members and non-members alike are invited to
attend and participate in the meeting although
only members will be permitted to vote.

Membership is open to students enrolled in
any school of the University upon payment of
dues of $3.00
