Tradition Continued
In Restoration Ball

The Restoration Ball which has
become a greatly anticipated spring
tradition at the University is scheduled to
be held this year on the evening of May 9.

Now in its seventh year, the annual formal
ball in the Rotunda will add to those deviations
from thoughts of final exams which become
increasingly prominent in late spring.

As indicated by its name, the purpose of the
Restoration Ball is to maintain interest in, as

illustration
well as raise money toward, the restoration of
the Rotunda to Mr. Jefferson's original design,
abandoned when the Rotunda was substantially
rebuilt after the fire of 1895.

Along the way to that end, the Restoration
Ball furnishes students and guests with the
opportunity to dance to the music of a
respected orchestra at the University's only
formal ball, while enjoying champagne and
other traditional refreshments.

Of course, only a limited number of tickets
can be sold. If past experience is a good
indicator, student tickets will be sold out
before the end of their first day on sale.

They are priced at $10 per couple, with
guest tickets at $15 a couple and patron tickets,
per couple, $35. All tickets go on sale in the
Rotunda on April 21.

The patron tickets entitle their holders to
special balcony tables, a special reception and
other services. They, and the guest tickets, may
be ordered by mail, with checks made to the
Restoration Ball Committee, and mailed to
room 7, West Lawn.

The sponsors of the Restoration Ball are the
Jefferson Literary and Debating Society and
the University Guide Service. This year's Ball
chairman is M. Campbell Cawood, a fourth year
commerce student. His co-chairman is Walter J.
Camp, a fourth-year man in the college.

They report that preparations for the Ball
are now well underway. The well-known
Devron Orchestra from Washington has been
engaged, refreshments and decorations are on
order, and there is every expectation that the
success of last year's Restoration Ball will be
equaled this May 9.
