Concert Friday
The University of Virginia Orchestra,
conducted by Joel Lazar, assistant Professor
of Music, will give its second
concert this Friday at 8:30 in Cabell Hall
Auditorium.
The program will be offered in
collaboration with the Hollins Chapel
Choir and the University Glee Club, and
will feature Brahms' "Ave Maria," Verdi's
"Stabat Mater," and Beethoven's Mass in
C.
Following its much-acclaimed debut
concert last November, the University Orchestra
turned its attention to the preparation of
two spring concerts featuring the music of
Beethoven in his bicentennial year.
Besides the mass, the Orchestra will present
his Second Symphony as the main work on an
all-orchestral program early in May. With its
membership of forty evenly divided among
students, faculty and townspeople, the University
Orchestra embodies the finest traditions of
the American community orchestra.
At this juncture in its first full-scale season
in nearly ten years. The University Orchestra
looks forward to expanding its base of
community support and participation as well as
to its growth in proportion to that of The
University.
