Election Rules
Confuse Vote

To the surprise of many graduate
students, each of the Graduate School of
Arts and Science's 21 departments are
now holding elections for representatives
to the Graduate Student Government
organization.

Due to the "lack of communication"
within the graduate school, many of the
students have not voted, or do not even
know they are supposed to vote, according to
Carter Morris, chairman of the Graduate
Student Government.

The purpose of the Graduate Student
Government is to regulate the student activities
and organizations if the Graduate School of
Arts and Sciences.

Representatives are elected for one-year
terms; however, their terms may be shortened
by recall and missing three consecutive
meetings with out an excuse.

The election process varies among the
different departments. After the chairman of a
department was notified about the elections, he
was given the option of organizing them within
the department himself or letting the student
organization of his department hold them.

Mr. Morris said all elections should be
completed by March 1. The first meeting of the
newly elected representatives will be in the
second week of March.

Anyone who doesn't know about the
elections should contact his department chairman
or the president of the student organization
of the department. Mr. Norris added.
