Mobe Starts
New Activities
"There is repression here in this
country and the people had better start
doing something about it now or
conditions will get worse."
With this idea in mind. Steve Squire,
co-chairman of the Virginia Mobilization
Committee, told The Cavalier Daily that
the Mobe has proclaimed February to be
a month of "Mobility Against
Repression."
Mr. Squire stated that the purpose of
the Mobe's activities for this month
would be to increase the awareness of
Virginia students of the "repression" that is
present in the country.
In line with this purpose the Mobe is
presenting a symposium on "Repression in
America" tomorrow night in the South Meeting
Room, Newcomb Hall, at 7:30.
The first speaker in the symposium will be
Thurman Wenzl, a student and former Navy
officer, who will speak on "Repression in the
Military."
The second speaker is Nancy Yates, a
fourth-year Nursing student, who will discuss
the "Repression of Women."
"The Justice Department and the Concept
of Conspiracy" will be the topic of the last
speech. Henry B. Hinton, a second-year Law
School student will lead the last discussion.
The Virginia Council on Human Relations
and the Radical Student Union have also
planned activities for the "Mobilization Against
Repression."
The VCHR and RSU will be sponsoring a
discussion on draft resistance and the race
situation in Pike City, Kentucky, Thursday
night in the South Meeting Room, Newcomb
Hall.
Leading this discussion will be two
representatives of the Southern Conference
Education Fund.
Mr. Squire also announced that plans are
now in formulation for March in the Mobe's
activities against the draft.
