Paul J. Jenkins, personnel director at
the University and immediate past president
of the College and University
Personnel Association, has been named
special research associate in the University's
Institute of Government.

Mr. Jenkins, who has been personnel
director for 18 years, has spearheaded
equal opportunity and special training
programs for University employees who now
total some 5,500.

Before coming to the University in 1951,
Mr. Jenkins was personnel analyst in the
Virginia State Division of Personnel and in his
new position will analyze manpower development
needs in localities throughout the State
for the Institute of Government. The institute
at the University, carries out major research
projects in State and local government and
conducts special programs for governmental
officials throughout the year.

Florida, Alabama Degrees

Mr. Jenkins holds degrees from the University
of Florida and the University of Alabama.
He has served on advisory committees for the
Charlottesville and Albemarle School systems
and is a frequent speaker and panelist for
government study groups and professional
associations.

The University also announced that H.
LeRoss Browne, former assistant to the
president of the Newport News Shipbuilding
and Dry Dock Company, has been appointed
director of employee relations with responsibility
for over-all supervision of personnel matters
at the University. Also joining the personnel
department as director will be Donald P.
Corderman, former assistant personnel director
at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

Commerce Lecturer

Mr. Browne, who will also hold the position
of lecturer in the McIntire School of Commerce,
will administer the non-discrimination
policies of the growing University and its large
medical center.

Mr. Browne is a native of Roanoke and
received his law degree from the University in
1940. He was head of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation's resident agency in Newport
News before joining the personnel division of
the shipbuilding company in 1951.

He subsequently was named personnel
manager of the firm and later assistant to the
president.

Mr. Corderman, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio,
is a graduate of Ohio University and has done
graduate work at Xavier University.
