VPP Membership Drive
Seeks Student Support
An organization meeting of the
Virginia Progressive Party will be
held tonight at 7 in Room 15
Cocke Hall.
According to Jon Miller, an
Associate Campaign Coordinator
of the new party, the purpose of
the meeting is to start a membership
drive throughout the University.
Any students interested in
joining the Virginia Progressive
Party are encouraged to attend the
gathering.
The party officers will be
introduced at the meeting along
with the five candidates for Student
Council in the College elections.
The goals of the party will be
formalized and sign up sheets for
party committees will be passed
around. Students are invited to sign
up for either the committee for the
current campaign or for the standing
committee that will run the
party in the future.
As the purpose of the party is
to attract students who desire
change within the University community
along the lines of the
University Party and the Student
Coalition, we would expect students
with moderate to liberal, even
radical, leanings to be interested in
the aspirations of the party and
what we are presently undertaking,"
Mr. Miller explained.
Mr. Miller stressed that the
Progressives will be a popular party
and not controlled by one segment
of the University.
