Phi Beta Kappa Selects
Students For Distinction

Eighty-three students at the
University have been elected to Phi
Beta Kappa, national honorary
fraternity.

The eighty-three students,
elected by the Beta chapter at the
University, will be initiated Tuesday,
April 22, Marvin B. Perry, Jr.,
president of Goucher College, Towson,
Maryland will deliver the
address at the initiation banquet.

A graduate of the University,
Mr. Perry was formerly professor of
English and dean of admissions
here. He is author of a number of
books and scholarly articles and is a
member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi
Gamma Delta, Omicron Delta
Kappa, and the Raven Society of
the University.

All undergraduate students
elected to Phi Beta Kappa must be
candidates for a bachelor's degree
in the arts or sciences. Fourth-year
students must rank in the top ten
percent of their graduating class,
while those elected in their third
year are particularly outstanding
students, in the top two percent of
their class.

Graduate Students

Graduate students must be recommended
by their departments
as scholars who show promise of
success in academic pursuits.

The following students were
elected to the honorary fraternity
from the Graduate School of Arts
and Sciences: Paul Lee Gaston III,
Richard Stockton Higgins, and
James David Rodgers.

Third-year students in the College
of Arts and Sciences elected to
Phi Beta Kappa were William
