Republican Nominee
Speaks Here Tonight
Delegate A. R. "Pete" Giesen
will address the first organizational
meeting of the University Young
Republicans in an open meeting
tonight. Scheduled to begin at 8
pm, the meeting will be held in the
South Meeting Room of Newcomb
Hall.
The Republican candidate for
Congress from the state's seventh
district has served three terms in
the Virginia House of Delegates and
was Assistant Minority Leader this
past year. He was also a member of
the Republican State Central
Committee last year.
A resident of Staunton,
Virginia, Mr. Giesen has served on
the Virginia Mental Health
Association, the United Negro
College Fund, the Staunton
Stadium Committee, the
Staunton-Augusta Chamber of
Commerce, and the Board of Directors of the YMCA.
In addition, he is a member of
Christ Lutheran Church, and a
Staunton Church Councilman.
Mr. Giesen received his B. A.
Degree from Yale University and
his Masters in Business
Administration from Harvard
University. Currently he is the
president and treasurer of the
Augusta Steel Corporation.
Mr. Giesen's address, which will
be followed by a question and
answer period, will be open to the
general public. The purpose of the
address is not only to hold a
meeting of the Young Republicans,
but also to give the candidate as
much exposure as possible in this
area.
Bill Thomson, president of the
club, said that his organization
would contribute a "substantial
sum" to Mr. Giesen's campaign.
