Duke Professor
To Give Lecture
On Book Origins

William H. Willis, professor of
classical studies at Duke University,
will discuss "The Origin of
the Western Book" in lecture at
8:30 tonight in Newcomb Hall's
south meeting room.

In the slide-illustrated lecture,
he will show how the codex, or
book, developed from the papyrus,
or roll.

Mr. Willis is a papyrologist
who has worked with papyrus in
the libraries of the University of
Michigan and the University of
Mississippi, the chief American
repositories of papyrus texts.
