Orientation Program

By Stefan Lopatkiewicz
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

"To introduce new guides to
the traditions and historical background
of the University," the
University Guide Service is this
year initiating an extensive training
program.

Thirty-five returning guides
and fifty-five prospective ones
will participate in the orientation
program.

The course will feature two
distinguished guest speakers and
an orientation tour of the Rotunda,
to be conducted by
Charles Bryant. It will conclude
with a self-graded quiz on the
history of the University.

Frederick Nichols, professor of
architecture at the University,
will speak to the guides in the
Rotunda on Tuesday, September
27. His lecture will include slides
and background information concerning
Mr. Jefferson's plans in
creating his architecturally unique
academical village.

The guides will attend a second
lecture in the Rotunda on
Thursday, September 29. Paul
Saunier, Assistant to the President
for University Relations,
will discuss the evolution of the
University to the present.
