Allen Wins Class Presidency
After Third And Final Vote

College third-year man
George Allen was elected
Senior Class President
yesterday in its third and final
election defeating third-year
College woman Connie Clark
by a vote of 191 to 116.

He finally received over 40
per cent of the votes cast
which he had not been able to
do in Tuesday's election, thus
forcing him and Miss Clark into
a run-off. The result of the
first election on May 8 was
disqualified due to irregularity
in balloting procedures.

When asked about his
victory, Mr. Allen said, "I am
naturally glad after going
through three elections. It is a
shame there had to be three
elections, but I believe that
they were carried out fairly."

"It does bother a person,
though, when he is in an

election every other day," he
added.

Mr. Allen believes his duties
of Senior Class President
"entail more than just engaging
a commencement speaker."

"I hope to take a survey to
find out how students feel
about certain issues," he said.
"Then I can make suggestions
and initiate action in the
proper direction."

"Some issues of the
University definitely need
attention such as the greening
of the Amphitheater and the
renovating of Old Cabell Hall
Auditorium. Also, many
students have come to me in
complaint of several
organizations being funded
that they do not support," Mr.
Allen said.

"Now that I have officially
won the election I am looking
forward to the coming fall
semester when I begin my
duties," Mr. Allen said. "I
want the students to feel free
to offer any suggestions they
may have on any issue."
