University Installs
Dorm, Street Lights

By BARBARA BROWNELL

"With about $45,000 worth
of new lighting fixtures,
Newcomb Road and several
other areas should be lighted
by Thanksgiving," Director of
Buildings and Grounds Harold
I. Taylor speculated.

Mary Munford and the
McCormick Road dorms have
been the main projects since
Sept. 1, with 100 new light
fixtures being placed around
Hancock and Bonnycastle

Mary Munford and the
McCormick Road dorms have
been the main projects since
Sept. 1. Since then 100 new
light fixtures have been placed
around Hancock and
Bonnycastle.

"We are now lighting
Nameless Field." said Mr.
Taylor, "and we hope to have
fixtures for the Lawn, Monroe
Hill dorms, and the walkway
from Minor to Maury Hall as
soon as possible."

The Buildings and Grounds
Department also plans to light
Rugby Road but it has not
been decided whether the City
or University will install them.

"The lighting replacement
plans began about five years
ago," explained Mr. Taylor. He
said new fixtures were needed

in place of the antique objects
which had been used for
several years. They were poor
lighting instruments, expensive
to replace and hard to order.
The new fixtures are much
more economical and practical,
according to Mr. Taylor.

"We would have started the
actual replacement much
sooner than this year, but
initial purchasing problems
held us back. Now that we
have the fixtures we are
working smoothly.
