Housing Office Begins
Dormitory Improvements
Installment of more laundry
facilities in Dabney and Dobie
Houses are among many
dormitory improvements
underway for this fall as a
result of cooperation between
Student Council, the
Association of Residential
Councils (ARC) and the
University Housing Office.
Five new washers and five
new dryers are being installed in
the rooms adjacent to the
laundromats in Dabney and
Dobie, after a laundry facility
study made by students in a
Speech 12 class last year,
Student Council President
Larry Sabato said. Students
making the study, Betsy Fitz,
John Klemm, Bill League,
Kenny Shuman, and Keith
Vann, sent their suggestions to
Housing Director Ralph E.
Main, who decided to install
the new facilities, Mr. Sabato
said.
Other improvements which
have evolved from ARC and
Council suggestions to the
Housing Office include
improvement of lighting
facilities in study rooms in
Bonnycastle, Echols, Hancock
and Kent Houses, and repair of
the Kent recreation room.
Holes in the recreation room
will be repaired, the room will
be air-conditioned, and pool
tables will be installed.
Cable television will be
available this fall in each of the
ten McCormick Road lounges.
The seven Alderman Road
houses are currently being
renovated, plastered and
repainted before the fall
session. Picnic tables which
were moved because of
construction of the
Observatory Hill dining facility
in Webb Woods are being
relocated.
A reference library will be
available for student use in
Webb Lounge this fall. As well,
Tuttle and Dobie Lounges are
being redecorated and seating
is being improved in both
lounges.
Mr. Sabato said that the
major improvement was
installment of two color
televisions in Tuttle and Webb
Houses.
