Black Culture

Black Culture Week will open Sunday
with a speech by Ossie Davis on
"Dramatic Readings and the Black
Situation in the Media".

Mr. Davis will speak in Cabell Hall
Auditorium at 8 p.m., introducing the
week's activities to commemorate Black
contributions to American culture.

Works by Waldo Johnson in a Black
Art Exhibit will be displayed from noon
to 5 p.m. each day of the festival in the
Visitor's Lounge of Newcomb Hall.

Media Workshop

Jack Daniel and Larry Coleman,
professors at the University of Pittsburg,
will conduct a workshop entitled "Mass
Media and Black Community
Development" Monday at 3:30 p.m. in
the South Meeting Room of Newcomb
Hall.

Mr. Daniel will also discuss "The
Power to Define" in Wilson Hall
auditorium Monday at 8 p.m., and Mr.
Coleman will then comment on "Mass
Media and Black Community
Development."

The remainder of the week will see
events such as Black poet Don Lee
speaking on "Black Poetry", and a movie
entitled "The Murder of Fred Hampton",

The Hampton Players will present a
production of "Contributions" Thursday,
and Donald Byrd, a jazz trumpeter, will
discuss "Black Music".

Midwinters Concert

Friday night PK—German will present
Nina Simone and Donnie Hathaway
in concert at University Hall, beginning
the festivities of Midwinters Weekend.

The Black Culture Festival will end
with a Black art sale Saturday from noon
to 5 p.m. in the Visitor's Lounge in
Newcomb Hall. Artist John Johnson will
display Black art work for sale.
