Candidates for Student Council offices
are stepping forward as the date of the
election April 28-29 draws near.

In conventions held March 31, the
Virginia Progressive Party and the
Jefferson Party nominated men and
women from the College to run for
Student Council and Judiciary Council
positions.

The VPP nominated Alan C. Botsford
Jr. for president of Student Council. Mr.
Botsford, a fourth year Commerce student, was
treasurer of Council this past term. Running
with him for Vice-President will be Stuart Pape.
Mr. Pape is a first-year law student.

Due to what they considered a lack of
suitably qualified people, the Jefferson Party
declined to nominate candidates for all Student
Council positions. Newly elected president of
the Jefferson Party, Scott Stephens said that
the JP will endorse one of the other presidential
candidates. Mr. Stephens declined to state who
they would support.

Tom Collier, the present secretary of the
Student Council and a third year student, is
also vying for the office of president. Mr.
Collier will be running on an independent
ticket.

Kevin Mannix, president of the Student
Council, said that he feels more people will be
running. The deadline for the petitions is April
21.

In the Engineering School, the only other
school to make nominations, the Progressive
Engineering Party nominated Timothy A.
Koogle, second year, and Charles L. Price, also
second year. Trigon has not yet made their
nominations.

Candidates for Council and Judiciary
representatives were also nominated. VPP is
running six candidates and another candidate to
fill the vacancy left by Scott Stephens, who
recently relinquished his position as a
representative from the College. Two first year
candidates will be Larry J. Sabato and Mary B.
Smith. Michael R. Flock, Chris R. Kerr, and
Paul A. DiPasquale, all second year students,
are additional candidates. John J. Blankenship,
a third year student, finishes off the slate of six.
Rita M. Pascoe, a first year student, will run for
the position left vacant by Mr. Stephens.

Candidates for the Judiciary Council from
VPP are Richard P. Pearson, Alan T. Robertson
and Kip Klein.

The Jefferson Party has nominated four
candidates for the Council. They are Robert E.
Bryant, Stephen W. Edwards James J.
Matthews, and Robert Kinker.

They are presenting Gary W. Lotz, Paul
Burks and Edward H. Bergin for Judiciary
positions.
