Housing To Assign Rooms,
Use Lottery For 71-72 Term

Due to the demand for space in
housing for single students, the Housing
Office will allocate accommodations for
the 1971-72 session on, class (year) basis
and will be distributed by lottery.

The change was made following a
recommendation by the Housing
Committee, and notice was made last
week by Ralph E. Main, Housing
Director.

In order to accomplish this, students
living off-grounds who desire to be
considered should register in the Housing
Assignment Office located in Page House before
February 9, 1971.

Those students presently living in University
Housing will receive registration forms in their
mail boxes.

In addition, preliminary applications for
Lawns, Ranges, and Crackerbox rooms for the
1971-72 regular session are now available in the
Assignment Office.

Those who may apply for the following
accommodations are; for the Lawns and
Crackerbox, undergraduate degree candidates in
their final year (graduate degree candidates may
also be considered); for the East Range, second
to fourth year medical students; for the West
Range, graduate students in good standing who
have attended the University for at least two
semesters.

Preliminary applications for the Lawn,
Ranges and Crackerbox should be returned to
the Housing Assignment Office on or before 5
p.m. Monday, February 8, 1971.

After the preliminary applications are
received those students approved will be
designated rooms by lottery.

University Housing has faced severe
overcrowding in recent years. Previously, most
upperclassmen have been assigned rooms on a
first-come, first-served basis, and the new plan
was proposed to eliminate the last-minute rush.
