New Process Requires
Group Registration

Registration for the spring 1971
semester will be a group effort this year
for all students in the College and the
Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

On February 1, all Arts and Sciences
students must report to Memorial
Gymnasium according to a schedule
based on the last digit of his Social
Security number.

Last spring, registration cards were mailed
out to the individual students and were returned
later. However, due to the scattered
drop offs, many faculty members were unable
to complete their class rolls until later in the
semester.

"The faculty were unable to get class rolls,"
reports Herbert R. Pickett, registrar, "and
often had to turn down students who wanted
to add a course because they were uncertain
how complete the rolls were."

The method of having students file in the
order of their Social Security number has been
used previously with incoming first year students.
Its use, Mr. Pickett said, is to insure that
no time period will be unduly crowded. The
schedule is as follows:

9-9:30 a.m.  Last SSN Digit 0
9:30-10 a.m.  Last SSN Digit 1
10-10:30 a.m.  Last SSN Digit 2
10:30-11 a.m.  Last SSN Digit 3
11-11:30 a.m.  Last SSN Digit 4
11:30-12 noon  Last SSN Digit 5
12 noon-12:30 p.m.  Last SSN Digit 6
12:30-1 p.m.  Last SSN Digit 7
1-1:30 p.m.  Last SSN Digit 8
1:30-2 p.m.  Last SSN Digit 9

The Registrar will notify faculty members of
individual student enrollments verified through
this process and thus assist students and faculty
to get classes settled earlier with less uncertainly.

Students who do not register on February 1
will be assumed to not be returning and the
seats reserved through preregistration will be
considered open for other students who wish to
add the courses.

Late registrants will be required to enroll in
classes by add action after February 1.

All other schools, who did not have the
same registration problem last year, will receive
their registration verification cards as usual and
will return them by February 1.
