Placement Office Sponsors
Federal Jobs Career Day

A federal Career Day will be sponsored
by the University's Placement
Office tomorrow.

The program will run from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. and will be held in the Newcomb
Hall Ballroom. Representatives from federal
government agencies will attend the
meetings as well as representatives from
the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The Placement Office reports that the
federal government is the nation's largest
employer with two and one-half million persons
on its staff.

The purpose of the Federal Career Day
program is to provide students with the opportunity
to explore a wide variety of available job
opportunities through informal discussion. The
Placement Office considers this an excellent
opportunity for students in both the technical
and non-technical academic fields to explore
professional career opportunities with the
government.

Students do not need to be government or
political science majors to attend the meetings,
nor do they have to be planning to graduate
this year. For underclassmen, the program is an
opportunity to discuss summer job interests,
courses which might be helpful for planning a
government career or the outlook for various
careers in the future.

The following organizations will be represented
at the program: Coast Guard, Defense
General Supply Center, Federal Civil Service
Commission, Federal Reformatory, USA
foreign Science and Technology Center, HEW,
Internal Revenue Service, Norfolk Naval Hospital,
Norfolk Naval Shipyards, and the Veterans
Administration.

Applications for the Federal Service Entrance
Exam, to be given on Saturday at 9 a.m.
in 16 Cocke Hall, can be obtained at the Office
of Placement.

In addition to these federal agencies, the
C.I.A. will be at the University for interviews.
Any persons interested should contact the
Placement Office.
