Goss, Siegel, Johnson Victorious;
Stephens, Ivey, Levin Win Seats

A total of 2120 students voted in the
Student Council and Judiciary
Committee elections held last week, in
which the Virginia Progressive Party won
all but one position.

In the Judiciary Committee elections,
Thomas Goss placed first with 1143
votes, Brian Siegel second with 1027
votes, and Fred Johnson placed third with 990
votes.

Judiciary Committee

The newly elected Judiciary Committee
members will take office at the beginning of the
second semester. During their first semester on
the Committee these officers will be responsible
for investigating violations which fall under
Judiciary Committee jurisdiction. In their
second semester these members will serve as
judges for Judiciary Committee violations.

The only position not won by the Virginia
Progressive Party was one Student Council seat.
Scott Stephens, of the Jefferson Party, placed
third with a total of 917 votes. Willie Ivey and
Bob Levin were also elected to the Student
Council with 925 and 972 votes respectively.

Only Problem

A misunderstanding of the Judiciary
Committee Constitution caused the only
problem in this College election. Bill Garner, of
the Jefferson Party, was ineligible to run,
according to the Constitution, because he had
not completed three semesters of work at the
University.

According to Kevin Mannix, Student
Council president, the election was not aborted
because neither the Jefferson Party nor the
Virginia Progressive Party requested that it be
so.

Election Valid

Also, since Mr. Garner did not win, Mr.
Mannix could see no reason to make void the
election. If, however, the VPP had objected to
Mr. Garner's name on the ballot before the
ballots were east or he had won, the election
would have been null and void.
