Black Students
Declare Today
'Solidarity Day'

In a statement released yesterday, the
Black students at the University declared
today to be "Black Solidarity Day."

The statement, signed by "The
Brotherhood," read:

"In our efforts to promote a socially
relevant atmosphere for Black Students
here at the University, we the members of
the Black community are recognizing
today as Black Solidarity Day. The kindling of
our vibrant ethnic unity in this country merits a
day of observance whereby we may illustrate
our Black pride through togetherness and unity.
We will display the colors of Black Nationalism
(red, green, and black) in our apparel and the
exhibition of these colors throughout the
university.

"The red represents the blood that has been
drained through hundreds of years of Black
oppression. The high aspirations and desires of
the Black people to overcome the white
oriented beliefs is typified by the green color.
The Black symbolizes the unity within Black
Men.

"Black Solidarity Day is officially observed
on the 2nd of November. But because of the
lack of communication with Black America at
"T.J.'s" Academic Village, the university Black
students will be observing it on this day. We
demand that there be no agitation from that
segment of the student body whose beliefs are
not parallel with ours."
