Committee Hearing Time
Given To Council Officers

In slow but steady progress to receive
student representation on the Board of
Visitors, the Student Council has secured
the right to consult with the Student
Affairs and Athletics Committee throughout
the entire meeting.

Previously, the president and vice-president
of the Council were invited to
discuss matters with the Committee for
only a specified portion of the meeting.
Thirteen of the current fifteen members
of the Board sit on the Committee.

The new policy was announced when Kevin
Mannix and Hugh Antrim, president and
vice-president of the Council respectively, met
with the Committee last Saturday to discuss
various matters.

Included in the discussion was the Code of
Conduct which was drawn up over the summer
by members of the Administration and the
President of the Honor Committee and the
Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Mr.
Mannix, as Council president, was invited but
did not attend that meeting.

The current effort by an Ad Hoc Committee
for a Student Code of Conduct to draw up a
new code was presented to the Board. The Ad
Hoc Committee was established by a recent
referendum which called for the creation of a
new code.

According to Mr. Mannix, the Board members
at the committee meeting Saturday displayed
a "flexible attitude," and did not voice
any immediate objections to the action by the
students. "They were not coming out with any
hard and fast positions," he added.
