John Thomas, third year student and
government major at the University,
became a member of the 1970 White
House Youth Conference and
co-Chairman of the National Task Force
On Education last summer, it was
released this week.

Mr. Thomas, student assistant to the
Dean of Admissions and president of the
Black Students for Freedom, said
yesterday that the information on his
appointment had been withheld for
political reasons until after the 1970
national elections.

Mr. Thomas will co-chair the task
force on education in the White House
Youth Conference with Robben Fleming,
President of the University of Michigan. Each
task force is co-chaired by an adult and a
student.

The Youth Conference consists of ten task
forces which will issue reports on topics of
particular concern to youths. Students from the
ages of 14 to 24 are concentrating on issues
ranging from drugs to the draft.

Mr. Thomas said yesterday that the initial
meeting of the task force was held during the
summer at the Western White House in San
Clemente.

The meeting confirmed each of the ten
members of the force's duties in the report to
be issued. Mr. Thomas will write the preface.

The next meeting of the task force on
education will be December 4 in Boston.

Mr. Thomas said that his intention in
accepting this post was to "seek ways of some
meaningful change."

"From this opportunity there is a chance
that something will come out," Mr. Thomas
said.
