Elects New Members

Raven Society Coeducates

Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

In an historic meeting last Wednesday
night, the Raven Society voted to change
its policy of exclusive male membership
and admit women of similar intellectual
interests, on the same basis as men.

New members to the Society were also
elected on the basis of excellence in their
field and contribution to the University,
as well as high scholastic attainments.
Undergraduates in their third or fourth
year, graduate students, faculty members,
and alumni were eligible for election.

The new President of The Raven
Society will be Reid Carter, from the
Graduate School of Business, who will be
initiated along with the rest of the recently
elected members, in the annual banquet to be
held on May 13 in Alumni Hall.

Faculty Recipients

Also during the banquet, the highly coveted
Raven Awards are presented to men outstanding
in their manifold contributions to the
University. This year, Joseph L. Vaughan,
professor of humanities, and John Graham,
Assistant Dean of the College, have been
selected to receive the Raven's highest honor
rdd to faculty members.

Student Recipients

Student recipients of the Raven Awards are
Hunter Hughs, Whitt Clement, and Bill
McManus. A special award will be presented to
Elizabeth Purvis, Graduate Programs Assistant
of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Newly elected members from the Faculty
Include George Matthews and Daniel N. Mohler,
and from the alumni, Forest P. Hyde. Two
students from the Graduate School of Business,
John F. Davies III and Rodger Davis, have also
been selected.

Elected from the Graduate School of Arts
and Sciences were Thomas Cannon, Jr., John
Reynolds, John S. Hodgson, Jr., Charles D.
Catheart, Michael Mewshaw, Richard A. La-Fleur,
Stuart I. Rochester, James Moore, Judith
Wellman, and Shelby North.

Law Students

From the Law School, new members
include, William Christopher, Peter Tierney,
David Johnson, J. Harvy Wilkinson, Sue An
Dillport, George H. Cramer, Joseph A. Mullens,
and Robert Goldman.

Selected student in the Medical School are
K. Buol Heslin, Beverly Booth, Philip W.
Catron, and Richard K. Guerry.

Architecture Students

Architecture students include Dan T. Donovan,
Robert L. Hilton, Hardee Johnston, John
S. Taylor, and Edward H. Winks, Jr.

Students elected from the Engineering
School are Francis M. Watson III, Dan A.
Walker, Howard P. Wilkerson Jr., and Michael
T. Healy.

College Students

From the College of Arts and Sciences,
Steven Baskin, Steven Brickman, David Bowman,
David Morris, Kevin Mannix, Buzzy
Waitzkin, and William Brenner have been
elected to the Raven Society.
