IFC Vows To Punish
Fraternity Law Violations

By Brian Siegel
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

"Action against fraternities indulging
in practices violating state and federal law
and tending to bring discredit upon the
fraternity system" will be taken by the
Inter-Fraternity Council.

Due primarily to an incident before
Midwinters, this motion was passed by
the IFC Governing Board to prevent such
cases in the future.

Mixed feelings were expressed in last
night's IFC meeting on this issue.
Although it was obviously illegal, some people
felt "it provided a service to everyone."

In a second warning passed last night, the
IFC Governing Board warned that neither
fraternity men nor their pledges should enter
the dorms if they will create a disturbance.

Action was taken against one house because
of such an incident which occurred last week.

At the meeting, newly elected president Ted
Foote reminded all those present that elections
for seats on the IFC Governing Board will be
coming up in two weeks.

Third-year men are eligible to run for these
positions. Second and third-year men will have
the opportunity to compete for places on the
Governing Board later this semester.

The single motion brought up in the IFC
meeting approved the donating of $100 to the
Churchill Jordan Fund. This is a scholarship
fund for underprivileged students established in
memory of a black student who was killed in a
car accident earlier this year.

It was reported that there will be no concert
IFC Weekend, March 21. The IFC beer party
that is annually scheduled for this weekend is
tentatively planned to be in Mad Bowl:
however, all the arrangements have not yet
been worked out.

There will be a meeting of all IFC
committee chairmen Thursday night to discuss
the upcoming spring projects. The meeting will
be at 4 in the afternoon in the IFC office.
