Registrar Reports Changes
In Student Draft Status

In answering questions concerning the
draft information policies of the University,
a representative of the Registrar
stated that the reporting to local draft
boards of the names of students whose
academic status has changed is a matter
of integrity and not of law.

Mr. William B. Guilford, Assistant
Registrar, stated that the present policy
of the Registrar is to report any person
who is no longer registered as a student at
the University, who is suspended from
the University, or who voluntarily withdraws
from the school.

Mr. Guilford explained, however, that
the Registrar only reports such a change
in status to a student's local draft board when
the student requests verification of his enrollment
at the University at the time of
registration.

In the fall registration card packet, each
student in the college is given a Selective
Service Verification Card. If the student signs
this card, he authorizes the Registrar to notify
his local board of his status as a student at the
University.

Once this authorization is given, and the
registrar es the student's status, the
Registrar will then report any change in that
status to the local board Mr. Guilford stated
that it the Registrar initiated the student's
enrollment as a representative of the University,
then to am its et. It should also
report any change in that status

The R is not bound by law to report
a change status of any student even
ly registered.
Only th is qud by law to
report any change of status

In Monday night, the Student
Council passed a motion to request the
Registrar to discontinuing policy of informing
the Selective Service a student is not making
satisfactory progress towards his degree, on it he
drops out of the University.

an S aul Dm of the School of
omm and of the Registration
Comte the by that makes the pol
for the Registrar, stated that the committee has
been recently discussing the policy of the
Registrar of disclosing student records to
various outside parties.

Although Mr. aulack stated that the
matter of releasing oon to draft bods
has not been discussed recently, he saw "no
reason to think that this subject would not
come up at the committee's meeting in a
few weeks"
