Visiting Scholar
Examines China

A noted Chinese historian will give a
public lecture tonight at 8 in the
Graduate Student Lounge on the West
Range on "The Integration of Chinese
Civilization."

Under the sponsorship of the University's
East Asia Committee, James T. C. Liu,
professor of East Asian Studies and history at
Princeton University, will offer a multidimensional
review of past centuries of Chinese
history with implications for the present in his
talk.

Shanghai Author

Mr. Liu, a native of Shanghai, is author of
several books on Chinese intellectual and
institutional history and contributing author to
"Chinese Thought and Institutions" and "Confucianism
in Action."

He has taught at Yenching University in
Peking, Yale University, University of Pittsburgh,
Stanford University and, since 1965,
Princeton University. Last year, he directed
Princeton's Program in East Asian Studies.

Fulbright Fellowship

He has held a number of fellowships for
teaching and research including a Fulbright
Research Fellowship in 1963-64 and a U.S.
Office of Education Fellowship in Japan in
1967-68.

Mr. Liu, who had been at the University
since Monday, will meet classes and students as
part of a program to bring scholars with
specialized knowledge and experience in
Chinese studies to the University for extended
stays.
