Rally To Urge
New Black Policy

The Virginia Council on Human
Relations is sponsoring a rally today at 1
p.m. in front of Pavilion VIII to urge the
Board of Visitors to establish a concrete
goal for black admissions.

The council decided to sponsor the rally
because in the council's opinion, is apparent
from the very limited black enrollment at the
University, not enough has been done to bring
about an integration balance representative of
either the overall population or the population
in Virginia."

The Council further stated that although
certain measures have been taken by the
Administration to rectify the inequities, it is
still necessary to show student sentiment
concerning accelerated integration.

Following the rally, students will have the
opportunity to listen to two speakers at the
Rotunda who are also part of the Human
Relations Council's activities.

Wesley L. Harris Sr., Assistant Professor of
Aerospace Engineering, and Rat Brown, a local
community organizer, will be the feature
speakers at the rally. They are scheduled to
speak at 2 p.m.

In addition to the University's policy on
Black Admissions, the rally will protest the lack
of funds available for blacks, poor whites, and
the summer work/study program.

The Board of Visitors is meeting at the
University today and tomorrow.
