Hite Appointed
To Draft Post

Charles A. Hite, Publisher of The Cavalier
Daily, has been appointed to the newly created
Youth Advisory Committee for the Selective
Service System of Virginia.

Mr. Hite, who is a fourth-year student at the
University from Richmond, was recommended
for the appointment this past summer with over
thirty other state residents representing the
areas of labor, agriculture, apprentices, and
education. Recommendations were made from
various state residents in these occupational
areas.

Twelve of the recommended residents were
selected to serve on the committee this month.
According to the Selective Service System
Office of Virginia, the committee will be
composed of "around nine students and three
members of other economic and geographic
areas of the state. These people will serve
without compensation for the State Director of
the Selective Service System of Virginia."

The purpose of the committee, according to
the state office, is to review the Military
Selective Service Act of 1967. Its members
would then advise the State Director of their
recommendations for reform of that act.
