Housing Office Names
New Senior Counselors

By Rick Pearson
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Ten upper class counselors were
chosen as senior counselors for the
1969-70 session for the Alderman
Road and McCormick Road
dormitories, the Housing Office
announced yesterday.

The new Senior Counselors are
Doug Bain, Steven Brickman, David
Bowman. Art Friedman, David
Kroner, Barry Leader, Don Martin.
David Morris, Mike Murphy, and
James Reibel. This list is only
partial, since two other counselors
have been chosen but their names
have not been released.

In another decision, it was
announced that James L. Riley,
senior counselor for the present
year at Lefevre House would serve
next year as Vice-Chairman of
Counselors in the McCormick Road
dormitories.

These announcements were
made yesterday by Bruce Wine and
Paul Hurdle, the new Chairmen of
the Executive Committee of
Counselors, after a long and
rigorous selection process.

The selection began a month
ago, immediately after the students
returned from Semester Break,
when dormitory counselors
interested in becoming senior
counselors approached the
Executive Committee of
Counselors.

This committee is made up of
the twelve senior counselors. They
then filled out application forms
and were interviewed individually
by the Executive Committee, which
rated each candidate and made
suggestions to the Committee on
Counselors.

This committee, consisting of
Chester R. Titus, Director of
Housing; Ralph E. Main, Assistant
Director; Associate Dean Raymond
C. Bice, Jr.; and the Chairmen of
Counselors, Cardwell, Ed
Hayes, and John Newman, then
made the final decisions.

The twelve senior counselors
will have extensive duties in their
new capacities. First they will sit
on the Executive Committee of
Counselors, which oversees all
actions in the dormitory areas.
They will also be responsible to
carry the decisions of the
Committee to their counselors and
the first-year men. In addition to
these responsibilities, they carry
the normal burdens of all
counselors living in a dormitory.

As Vice-Chairman of
Counselors, Mr. Riley will take care
of much of the paper work and
routine work of the Executive
Committee. He will act as direct
assistant to Mr. Wine, living in the
basement of Webb House and
supervising the activities of the
senior counselors in the first-year
Alderman Road dormitories, while
Mr. Wine is occupied on
McCormick Road. In addition to
these jobs, he will be secretary of
the Executive Committee of
Counselors and will help plan the
selection and orientation of senior
counselors.
