Fraternity Council
Sponsors Program
About Rush Rules
To familiarize the first-year men
with the fraternity system, and rush
in particular, the Inter fraternity
Council is sponsoring a rush
orientation program this Sunday,
September 29.
Forty fraternity men
representing the fraternities on the
grounds will split up into pairs and
go into each floor of the twelve
first year dorms.
These groups will discuss with
the first-year men such topics as
"rush rules, generalized aspects of
fraternity living, and will dispel the
myths surrounding fraternities," Ed
Hayes, President of the
Inter fraternity Council said
yesterday.
Meetings will be scheduled at
8,9, and 10 p.m. The schedule is
listed below:
In the McCormick Road Dorms,
the meetings will be field in the
lounge. The first floors will be
scheduled for 8 p.m., the second
floors for 9 p.m., and the third
floors for 10 p.m.
In the Observatory Hill
Dormitories, the meetings will be
held in the counselor's suite. The
first floor is scheduled for 9 p.m.,
the second floor for 10 p.m., the
third floor for 9 p.m., and the
fourth floor for 10p.m.
Rush begins for the first-year
men next Thursday with Dorm
visits. At this time fraternity men
will enter the first-year dorms to
talk with the first-year men and
give them invitations to the first
series of rush events.
These first invitations are called
"blanket invitations" because any
first-year man is welcomed into any
fraternity house regardless whether
he received an invitation or not.
These first parties coincide with
Homecomings weekend. The
fraternities will sponsor smokers
from 8 to 12 p.m. on Friday and
combo parties from 9 p.m. to 1
a.m. on Saturday.
"Fraternities offer many
undergraduates the best
opportunity to get the most out of
their college years. Sunday's
program is intended to clear up any
questions or doubts in the mind of
first-year men, "Ed Hayes said.
"I hope that all first-year men
will visit the 33 fraternities here
next week end," he also said.
