Fourth Artists Series Presentation

National Ballet To Perform Tonight

Washington's National Ballet
will perform tonight at 8:30 in
University Hall, in the fourth
production of this year's Artists
Series.

Under the direction of Frederic
Franklin, a former Maitre
de Ballet of the Ballet Russe
and one of the world's premier
danseurs, the company will perform
four ballets including
Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake."

In addition to "Swan Lake,"
Barber's "Through the Edge,"
Minkus' "Don Quixote," and
Rossini's "Con Amore" will
highlight the performance.

"Swan Lake" will feature, in
the leading roles, the husband
and wife team of Eugene Collins
and Andrea Vodehnal. Mr. Collins,
as Prince Siegfried, will be
appearing in his most widely-acclaimed
role, while Miss
Vodehnal has been described by
Time as a "classical dancer of
exceptional poise."

Premier Dancers Will Appear Separately In Tonight's Artist Sires

Two of the ballet's other premier
dancers, Marilyn Burr and
Stefan Grebel, will also perform
tonight. They will appear in the
pas de deux, "Don Quixote."

Since its opening performance
in 1963, the National Ballet's
fame has grown to the point
where it is now recognized as one
of the three finest ballet companies
in the United States.

The Philadelphia Inquirer
wrote, "The National Ballet has
everything — excellent leading
dancers, a superb ballet corps,
creative choreographers and decor
artists." Time also acclaimed
the company's dancers calling
them "young, good-looking, remarkably
well-trained and irresistible
in their spirited enthusiasm
and joy of movement."

Tickets for tonight's performance
will cost $4 per person and
are on sale at Mincers' and the
main desk in Newcomb Hall. According
to John Herring, the director
of Newcomb Hall, only
about 20 tickets are still available.
