Resolution Passed
On Maid Service

At its second meeting of the
year, the First-year Committee
of the Student Council unanimously
passed a resolution condemning
the maid service in the
first-year dormitories.

The resolution read: "We the
members of the First-year Committee
of the Student Council
wish to express dissatisfaction
with the maid service provided
the first-year dormitories of the
University. We hereby resolve to
investigate and attempt to improve
the situation."

The Housing Committee will
investigate the complaint.

David Broyles, senior counselor
in Humphreys, gave a short
talk on the possibility of setting
up a first-year cheering section
at football and basketball games.

He has not yet received permission
from the Athletic Department
to rope off 100 prime
seats for use by first-year men.

After some debate, the 30
delegates decided to test their
halls for support of the plan. If
enough support can be mustered,
the cheering section, limited to
first-year men without dates,
could be operational by the
game this Saturday with N.C.
State.

Committee Chairman Dan
Lyons opened the meeting with
a series of announcements, the
first being that the committee
would soon be receiving over
$900 to pay for the First-year
Facebook.

He then announced his selection
of delegates for chairmen of
the four sub-committees and for
parliamentarian. They are: Buzzy
Waitzkin, Special Duties Committee;
Jim Gilmore, Food Services
Committee; Will Lindsey.
Housing Committee; and John
Holman, Yearbook Committee.
Bruce Bland was selected as
Parliamentarian. Other delegates
were placed on one of the four
sub-committees.

Mr. Lyons went on to announce
that any delegate who
missed three meetings without a
valid excuse or without sending
a substitute would be excused
from the Committee and a new
delegate would be elected from
his hall.

Many complaints and suggestions
were brought to the meeting.
Complaints about the vending
machines, the length of registration,
the state of the study
room in Hancock, desks and
other equipment not yet installed
in the new dorms, and the hot
water situation in the showers
were heard.
