Carter, Healy Win
Top IFC Positions

By LAURA HAMMEL

Third-year man Hugh
Carter, running unopposed,
was elected to the top position
in the Inter-Fraternity Council
(IFC) at elections last night.

Mr. Carter, a member of Pi
Kappa Alpha social fraternity,
has served on the
Inter-Fraternity Governing
Board since last winter. He
discussed his plans for the
future.

'Relax The System'

"I hope to relax the system
between the IFC board and
officers and the individual
houses," he asserted. "With a
more informal atmosphere I
think we can accomplish much
more."

"One thing we hope to
achieve next year is a greater
emphasis and increased
publicity on rush. We hope to
extend the bus system during
rush next year in order to
reach all the houses," he
continued.

Mr. Carter expressed his
pleasure at the election
turnouts. "I've worked with
three of the new officers
before and I know the other
two fairly well so I think we all
can do a good job."

Second-year man Tom
Healy from Delta Sigma Phi
was selected asVice-President.

Second-year man Gilbert
Butler, a member of St.
Anthony Hall, and third-year

man Howard Messrs from Phi
Epsilon Pi were selected as
secretary and treasurer,
respectively.

Elected to the Governing
Board were second-year man
Daniel Peak of Kappa Sigma
and third-year man Kevin
Johnson, a member of St.
Elmo Hall.

Governing Board Positions

Fourth-year man Chuck
Fancher of Phi Sigma Kappa
was elected to fill the
Governing Board position
vacated by Mr. Healy.

Reminiscing about his past
term as IFC President,
fourth-year man Bob Byron
said, "We really bottomed out
last year and we are starting to
climb. I think that a small part
of this is due to the IFC
leadership this year... a small
part."

Mr. Byron was impressed
with the excellent
qualifications of the newly
elected officials and remarked,
"Hugh Carter will prov good
leadership, he is very outgoing.
I think Tom Healy will
certainly prove himself to be a
hard worker."
