Legal Environment Group Announces
Plans For Publication Of 'Legwork'

By ALLISON ST. CLAIR

The Legal Environment
Group (L.E.G.) of the Law
School recently announced
plans to publish a new monthly
publication, Legwork, which
will deal with environmental
problems.

The initial publication of
Legwork should be ready for
distribution by the end of
November. It will concern such
topics as the community
efforts to avert a fox hunt in
Nag's Head, North Carolina,
the land fill problem in
Charlottesville and the
Commonwealth Attorney's suit
against Vepco.

"Problems will not be
treated in cursory, press release
fashion," said L.E.G. President
John W. Lunsford. "Each will
be reported in depth in the
context of its peculiar factual
setting: the social milieu, the
proponents and opponents, the
action taken and, of course,
the result," Mr. Lunsford
added.

The L.E.G. plans six or
seven editions of Legwork this
year, each about twelve pages
in length, according to
Legwork Editor Jeremy Kahn.
At present, the publication is
staffed by L.E.G. members,
but consideration has been
given to allow guest articles
during periods of Law School
exams.

Copies Available

The monthly periodical will
be mailed to over one hundred
newspapers and environmental
groups throughout Virginia and
the Southeast, as well as to
similar law school
organizations.

Limited by funds, L.E.G.
will not publish Legwork for
the student body, but copies
will be available in the L.E.G.
office, located in the trailers
behind the Law School.

L.E.G., a student
organization, presently
including twenty-one law
school students, was formed
three years ago in the interest
of environmental preservation.

Seeks Solutions

Funded by the Student
Council and several
non-University sources, L.E.G.
deals with problems brought to
its attention by citizens. An
example was the recent request
to stop construction of the
Appalachian Power Company
Dam.

L.E.G. also provides legal
research for lawyers in its
efforts to aid individuals and
organizations seeking
resolution of environmental
problems.
