Society Members Support
Medical Library Funding

By ROSS HETRICK

The Raven Society has come out in
favor of appropriations for the Medical
School Library and Information Center.

In a letter sent Tuesday, K. Stewart
Evans Jr. acting for Paul Hurdle,
president of the Raven Society, urged
members to express their support by
writing to members of the State Senate
Finance Committee and House
Appropriation Committee.

Mr. Evans pointed to the present
deplorable condition of the Medical
School Library and Information Center.
He added that "new facilities are needed
for the maintenance and expansion of the
University's excellent Medical School
program."

The Raven Society hopes that a strong
response from its members will influence
the General Assembly in appropriating
$896,500 as requested by the University.
This sum of money would be
supplemented by $1,653,500 from the
federal government as provided for under
the Physician Manpower Training Act,
according to the February 17 "University
Register."

However, the federal grant cannot be
given until the University receives the
state funds.

This plea was prompted because
Governor Holton did not include this
appropriation in his annual budget
request to the General Assembly.
