New Semester
Lecture Series

By BEVERLY DOWELL

Norman Mailer, author of "The
Armies of the Night" will speak at
University Hall in February on an
as-yet-unspecified date according to Dave
Baron, Speakers Chairman of the
University Union.

The Union will also present second
semester Yevgeny Yevtushenko,
renowned Russian poet, Dick Gregory,
former presidential candidate, and
William Styron, author of "The
Confessions of Nat Turner," at various
times in Cabell Hall Auditorium.

Mr. Mailer, the author of several
books, recently ran for mayor of New
York on a ticket with columnist Jimmy
Breslin. In his campaign, Mr. Mailer
proposed that New York City break away
from New York State and petition the
federal government for permission to
become a separate state.

Mr. Yevtushenko will speak Feb. 21 at
8 p.m. The young poet has made several
speaking tours of the United States.

Nightclub comedian Dick Gregory will
appear March 1 at 8 p.m. Mr. Gregory ran
for president as the candidate of the
Peace and Freedom Party. Tickets for his
talk will be $1.

Mr. Styron will speak March 22 at 8
p.m. His novel, "The Confessions of Nat
Turner" was a reconstruction of the slave
rebellion led by Nat Turner in Suffolk
County, Virginia, in the 1830's.

The Speakers Committee of the Union
has already presented Tom Wolfe, author
of "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test",
and Kurt Vonnegut, author of
"Slaughterhouse Five", this fall.
