Legal Aid Program
Selects New Director

Robert F. Rutschow, a local attorney,
has been appointed full-time
attorney-director of the
Charlottesville-Albemarle Legal Aid
Office.

Legal Aid is a program designed to
provide legal services to those who are
financially unable to retain a lawyer. The
project was made possible in this area by
a $65,000 grant from the Office of
Economic Opportunity and has been
organized by the local Bar Association
and the University Law School.

Mr. Rutschow will begin work
immediately at the Legal Aid Office
located at 224 Court Square. Students
from the Law School's Legal Assistance
Society will work with Mr. Rutschow and the
program hopes to add a second staff attorney
shortly with a third lawyer joining the office in
the spring.

Don Carroll, Director of the Legal
Assistance Society at the Law School,
anticipates that the services of the Legal Aid
Office will be greatly increased.

Mr. Rutschow is 39 years old and was born
in Herkimer, New York. After earning his law
degree at Washington and Lee in 1968. Mr.
Rutschow joined the Charlottesville firm of
Gordon and Haugh.

Mr. Rutschow is the President of the Central
Virginia Symphony Society, a member of the
Civitian Club, and includes gardening and
photography among his hobbies.

Mr. Rutschow said that he was looking
forward to filling his new position.
